A Baldwin in the Bronx??

May 14, 2008 / by bronxlady

I met a friend in Grand Central for a few drinks one evening after work.  We met for only about an hour and then parted ways heading to our prospective trains.  Being that I was already in Grand Central, I jumped on the express 5 train uptown towards the Bronx.  At 125th street, I switched over to the 6 train.

The train was pretty empty because it was a bit after the five o'clock rush hour.  I took a seat and proceeded to read a book.  I happened to glance over to a gentleman standing in front of the door and thought to myself, "god, that looks like a Baldwin brother".  Couldn't quite tell though because he was wearing large dark sunglasses.  He could be someone heading home from work.  He had a suit on and a few bags with him.  The usual stuff you see on the train.

After a few minutes, I couldn't help but keep glancing at this guy because he really did look like one of the Baldwins.  After a few stops, the man walked over and sat down next to me.  He started to talk to the woman next to him and handed her a book.  I glanced over at the book and waddyaknow.  Stephen Baldwin was the author.  When he turned his head towards my direction, I asked, "are you Stephen...?".  He cut me short by putting his finger to his lips and saying, "ssshhh".  Wow.  What is this guy doing on a train up to the Bronx??

So I asked him.  "What the hell are you doing on the 6 train to the Bronx?"  His response, "I have a buddy who owns a body shop up there and he's working on my car.  He's meeting me at the train station in.....(at this point he proceeded to look at the list of stops on the train)...Pelham...".  "Oh, Pelham Bay?  I get off at that stop as well", I replied.

He was a nice guy.  He was very friendly to everyone on the train and didn't push his born-again Christian views on anyone.  It was a nice surprise to sit next to a pretty famous guy, who in the end, was just like everyone else.

So that's my full contact famous person story for now.....
